MECATE's Point System

The Point System developed for and by the members of MECATE is a compilation of the examples provided to us by other organizations, both live and model/hobby related. The purpose of the Point System is in its application for determining the various Merit Awards, based upon the accumulation of points, presented by the organization. The system is neither unrealistic nor a "gimme". Owners with their models must put forth an effort to achieve, and it is our hope that in so doing find themselves further educated and informed as well as bettering themselves in the process as they experience first-hand sportsmanship and competition not so much against others, but against themselves while in a supportive environment.

Upon registering your models with MECATE you may begin submitting their points to the Pointkeeper. At this time, it is the responsibility of the member to supply placements and results (when not available on the MECATE website) for any Live Show, Benefit Show, and non-MECATE photo shows to pointkeeper@mecate.org or hardcopies to:
MECATE Pointkeeper

Excluding MECATE POPS results, please include a copy of the results for which you are submitting placements/points. If there is an online copy of the results, a url to the results will be sufficient, but we strongly suggest you save a copy to your HD or disk, etc. incase online results should later become unavailable.

Below find the point scale for classes, intrasubdivision champions/reserves, subdivision champions/reserves, division champions/reserves, reserve grand and grand of show. CUMULATIVE AWARDS

Cumulative Awards, or Merit Awards, are earned by an accumulation of points garnered for placements models earn at shows. As model horse enthusiasts, these are just some of our goals. It should perhaps be said that these are not necessarily short-term goals. In most instances it takes the average hobbyist approximately two (2) years of showing in the different types of shows to earn a ROM. Obviously "individual mileage may vary".

These awards will be announced as awarded throughout the year and/or in addition with the Year-End-Awards. Certificates will be presented to the owners of models. Only models registered with MECATE are eligible. A model earning one or more of these awards is entitled to proceed the model's name with a symbol, indicating its award - such as: X

  1. Miscellaneous Register of Merit (MROM) 75 points (from "fun" classes like best name, Stable choice, etc. Points must be earned in similar type classes, i.e. model cannot receive MROM for a point accumulation from Stable Choice, Best Name, and Bad Performance, but can earn an MROM if enough points are earned from, for instance, all Judge's Choice.)
  2. Register of Merit in Halter (ROMH) 750 points (all Halter classes)
  3. Register of Merit in Performance (ROMP) 750 points (all Performance classes)
  4. Versatility Award (VA) 1000 points - minimum of 500 points in Halter classes and minimum of 500 points in Performance classes, combined for a minimum of 1000 points.
  5. Legion of Merit (LOM) 1500 points (all Halter or all Performance classes)
  6. Supreme Champion - Any model winning five (5) Grand Champion of Show or Reserve Grand Champion of Show* titles no fewer than three different judges.

(Models are asked to retire from MECATE's POPS for one (1) year in the division [Halter or Performance] that they earned the 2,000 points in - but may continue to show the division they have not yet earned the Hall of Fame award in.)
* The MECATE membership voted for inclusion of Reserve Grand Champion of Show awards towards the Supreme Champion cumulative award. The poll for this was concluded on Wednesday, Dec 17, 2003 3:04 AM with an 8-0 vote.
